What’s your Escape?

We are delighted to post a brand new debut writer on the website with her poem titled “What’s your Escape?” written by Amna AlSayyah. Enjoy

What do you do when life has too much life in it

What do you do when your lungs can’t seem to take enough air

no matter how hard you breath

What do you do when earth

just won’t stop moving under your feet

Where do you go

Tell me what you do to live

What fights the dreadfulness of thoughts

when its time to sleep

What’s there so that when you lie in bed

waiting with your eyes open for sleep to come

it is not the shadows of your nightmares

playbacks of your regrets

or forecasts of your fears you see

What’s there so that instead,

You can see the hope in all that is

So you can look up at your dark ceiling

and instead of a gaping black hole

You can see the brightness of a billion burning stars

What’s there so that when your thoughts wander around

and you lose track

You can go back and regroup

Recuperate

Recharge

And come back realizing that life will go on

with or without you

You might as well try to keep up

What’s your escape?

  1. “Brightness of a billion burning stars” “Waiting with your eyes open for sleep to come” just some of the lines that jumped out at me and made my heart squeeze.

    Beautifully beautifully written
