20, broken

Shaima Al Shamsi comes back with a haunting poem for our “Villain” theme. We hope you enjoy it

Down the slope he crumbles

Latched onto an evil soul
It’s a tricky road he’s taking
With a mind of its own
***
A shadow so dark
Consuming the grey of which he spoke
Seeping into what little light there was
***
It never stopped thieving
With nothing to believe in
He stepped out to see it
The devil within him
***
So many easy ways to erase his sins
With so much pride to sacrifice them with
He escaped all the pressure
He sought shelter from what became of him
***
Awaiting a tide that may never show;
The unspoken promises of tomorrow;
A raindrop from a prayer he never said;
A blessing from a life he could sense
***
