With Dawn, and when Dawn comes

We are thrilled to post up a new piece by Maryam AbdulAziz , only this time she has chosen to submit her first take on poetry for our theme “Dawn”. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

If you worry for me, darling only if you do.

Know that with Dawn, and when Dawn comes,
I will be smiling. I will be anew.
Though my breath caught fire,
Though my tears run like Sound,
Though my poems don’t rhyme,
Darling you must now,
With Dawn, and when Dawn comes,
I will be smiling. I will be anew.
I am not Lovelace, nor am I Poe.
This is not Sonnet 43, nor is it Annabel Lee.
But darling, with Dawn, and when Dawn comes,
I promise you: I will quit poetry.
I will be smiling. I will be anew.
Even with a dying heart, a mind at war, and a pauper for a soul,
Even with my hatred, and my suicide, and all that is my little,
Know that: With Dawn, and when Dawn comes,
You will be smiling with me. Darling, you will be anew.
