The Mask

Shaima AlShaikh submits a new poem for our October theme “Masks” under the title The Mask. We hope you enjoy it

Another big smile, another white lie.

Another day that makes me want to die.

Another cold tear, runs down my cheek

Another shock that makes me weak

I go to bed, hold on tight

I know I cannot win this fight

I am not strong, I am not great

I am someone who’s filled with hate

I need to subsit, I need to survive

So I put on a mask, in hopes to revive

I cannot be me, I cannot be real

I will become she, and make you my meal
