We are happy to debut a peice written by 15 year old writer Alia Al-Hazami on her take of what should be the answer to the question “What keeps humans alive?” Enjoy
What keeps us alive? Your first answer is, without a doubt, going to be, “By inhaling oxygen, drinking water and eating.” Well, let me tell you that your answer is false. Sure, it makes us survive but what I’m looking for is an entirely different answer, what I’m looking for is the answer to ‘How to be alive on the inside?’
How can I feel alive if I am surrounded by a sea of people and still feel lonely? How can I feel alive if assemblages of shallow materialistic buffoons confine me? All what people care about is being ‘cool’. They’re willing to go against EVERYTHING they based their lives on just to fit in and boost a fake self-esteem by going with the flow.
Humans puzzle my symmetrically tangled brain. Why would they like to go with the flow if they can be different beautiful individuals? If one is normal then he must hope to be different. I’d rather be an outcast than make such great effort to fit in. To me, all these people are dead from the inside! They’re not enjoying life to the fullest, or at least that’s how I see it.
What people need to do is fuel their souls with art, and then they’ll see the beauty of life and realize what they’ve been missing out on. Trust me, the world will look so much brighter and fruitful; it will open your eyes to various possibilities in life and you’d discover opportunities you never knew you had. Life is short; if we don’t start enjoying it with our true selves rather than imitating to look like we descend from a certain crowd, then our existence will be a waste of space.
