Writing for Teens: A four Day Writing Workshop

The Untitled Chapters Team is proud to announce about a 4 day writing workshop!

This workshop is organized by the Goethe-Institut, the official German cultural organization, which has been organizing writing workshops. Last year the main focus for the workshop is Emiratis writing for children; this year the main focus of the workshop is writing books for Teens

The Goethe-Institut  believe that there are very few books for teens in Arabic and almost none written by Emiratis for Emirati teenagers, they would like to invite talented Emirati authors to work on their teen book projects with an experienced teen novel author, exchange ideas with other Emirati authors and discuss the chances and challenges of writing for teens in the UAE.

The workshop will be conducted (in English) by German star author and very experienced workshop instructor Kirsten Boie whose bestseller “Alhambra” has recently been translated into Arabic.

When?

The workshop will take place in Abu Dhabi from 26.03. – 29.03.2012 (all day). A total of 4 days.

Admission is free.

How to Register?

As places are limited, interested authors are kindly asked to submit a synopsis (1-2 pages) of their teen book project in either English or Arabic

Deadline for this: 30 January 2012

Allocation of the places will be based on the submission of the synopsis.

They have invited the members of Untitled Chapters in order to join this in hopes of helping inspiring writers with their idea, get feedback, discuss ideas and “fill in the gaps” in your story with other writers and an acclaimed published author in this field. Last year’s feedback came out with very positive responses.

The final schedule will be sent out to confirmed participants at the end of February/beginning of March.

We hope to see many of you attending this; it sounds like a wonderful opportunity for all Female Emirati Writers to grow and learn from other writers Whoever wants to apply, drop us an DM or a comment below and we will send you the email that you can use to submit your story

  1. I would love to participate but I’m a little confused. I’m just a teenage amateur writer with no published books what so ever. I do have a couple of projects that I’m working on (for practice and not for actual publication), does that qualify me as an author?

    1. Yes actually you do qualify, this workshop is aimed for Emirati writers (does not matter if published or not) who have ideas in their minds and want to write them. This workshop is for you to discuss your ideas with other Emirati writers and the author who can give you feedback on your ideas 🙂

    2. Dear Sarah,

Thanks for your interest in our workhop. As Fatma wrote, there is no need to be a published author. If you like to know more, simply get in touch with me by phone or e-mail. Number and adress are in the brochure Fatma linked to the article above.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!

  2. Hello, I’m Sarah’s friend and I also aspire to be an Emirati writer. I am wondering where should I submit/send my synopsis. I send it to you or to them? Can you please answer me ASAP? Thanks.

    1. Hello Mariam, I’m glad you’ve taken an interest in this course and in being a writer. You can go ahead and send the synopsis directly to them. The email can be found in the broacher that we linked to. Good luck and Happy writing =)
